The Fox And The Thrush

Russian Folk Tale

Book Description

A thrush once built her nest in a tree, laid her eggs and hatched out her thrushlets. When the fox heard of this she came to the tree and sat there tapping her tail against the tree-trunk. The thrush looked out of the nest to see what was the matter. “I'll cut down the tree with my tail,” said the fox, “and then Ill eat you and your babies!” The thrush was frightened of the fox and began to beg her: “Don’t cut down my tree, Mother Fox”, she wailed, “spare my children and I'll feed you on honey and cake.”
